They are the country’s largest and most recognised mental health initiative, and for the last 15 years they have been at the forefront of providing counselling services, mental health awareness programmes, powerful media campaigns, school talks and rural outreach initiatives to thousands of patients, families and communities in South Africa.
They have over 180 Support Groups nationwide. Their highly trained counsellors operate the Mental Health Counselling Centre and the toll free Suicide Crisis Line everyday from 8am to 8pm.Mental illness has a stigma surrounding it, and the SADAG’s expertise lies in assisting patients and callers throughout South Africa with mental health queries.
They are a Non-Profit Organisation with a full team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and General Practitioners. They run a 16-line counselling and referral call centre and also offer educational materials, including free multilingual brochures on mental health issues including depression, bipolar, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, teen suicide and substance abuse.They also offer workshops and training programmes countrywide.
Their dedication has been recognised nationally and internationally with numerous prestigious awards and grants.
